Introduction

Over several decades, we the Healthcare Professionals (HPs), working at all levels of patients care (primary, secondary and tertiary) in the continent of Africa (54 countries, population of 1.4 billion people) have observed the gradual decay and the near-total collapse of healthcare delivery systems in all the 54 countries of Africa, our motherland.

Hospitals and other healthcare facilities have deteriorated: currently unable to provide the desired quality of patients care, resulting in very high mortality rates, especially among children and the elderly.
The governments of many African countries appear totally helpless, and require our immediate interventions
even to achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
In the past decades, this frustrating situation prompted (and still continuing) the mass exodus (out of Africa, to Western and Middle Eastern countries) of senior highly experienced and skilled HPs (including medical doctors, nurses, medlab scientists, pharmacists etc), resulting in further deterioration of quality of patients care and manpower training in Africa.
Governments alone can not reverse these devastating developments in Africa’s health sector. It is time for Africa’s HPs to step in, to rise up to the occasion (yes, we can), to actively work together, in total collaboration with the continent’s 54 ministries of health and AHPI.org’s Distinguished Committee of Friends (DCF), and utilising interventions programs and projects, to achieve the desired results of effectively rescuing the collapsing health sector of Africa.
Let all of us, Africa’s HPs, including those in the diaspora and retirees, come together to execute the full resuscitation and total upgrade of the healthcare sector of each of the 54 African countries, with ultimate aim of significantly improving the quality of patients care, manpower training, and mortality rates.
